Greetings. I am a voting constituent in rural west Texas.
We’re all still pondering the absurdity of a constitution-clutching, Federalist-worshipping, flag-deifying, my country right or wrong do or die political party still totally, completely, absolutely, in thrall to a standard bearer who wants to put our country’s founding document through a shredder. So he can have his old seat back, forever I guess.
So it’s kinda shocking, but not surprising, that the few brave souls in the GOP to actually voice that maybe, just maybe, DJT was a tad out of line with his burn down the country manifesto, even now won’t say if they will be supporting his 2024 campaign for Prez.
Gob-smacking.
Crickets from my elected officials in Congress. (One of whom professes to be a constitutionalist. I guess it’s all in the interpretation.)
Crickets from the Federalist Society, righteous self-proclaimed upholder of all things constitutional.
Crickets from every influential talking head still in thrall to that one-man wrecking ball.
Crickets from anyone in your party still enabling and sustaining his madness.
Such is the danger of piously preaching convictions. You might be called upon one day to actually back them up.
I think instead of Kevin McCarthy having the Constitution read from the House floor come January, you should each instead be required to reaffirm your oaths of office.
“I…do solemnly swear (or affirm) that I will support and defend the Constitution of the United States against all enemies, foreign and domestic; that I will bear true faith and allegiance to the same; that I take this obligation freely, without any mental reservation or purpose of evasion, and that I will well and faithfully discharge the duties of the office on which I am about to enter.
