If you want to see how the Trump administration would like to rule the country you need look no further than Kilmer Abrego Garcia.
After months of being detained by America through a mistake, sent to an El Salvadoran prison in defiance of court orders, shuffled through our ‘justice’ system, moved around like the political pawn he is, he was finally released back to Maryland where he had been living with his wife and children.
He was promptly given 72 hours notice by ICE that he would be deported again, this time to Uganda.
Uganda?
Today at his mandatory Immigration check-in he was once again taken into custody.
On Thursday, the government offered Abrego Garcia assurance that it would remove him to Costa Rica if he agreed to delay his pretrial release, plead guilty to criminal smuggling charges and serve any sentence imposed by the court.
It included a letter from a Costa Rican official stating that the country planned to provide refugee status or residency to him and said it would not send him back to his home country of El Salvador.
He declined the offer, wanting his day in court as promised by American due process.
Instead he will be sent to Uganda so the case will never have to go to court. The government will not have to prove anything to anybody.
Does that sound about right?
This is revenge. This is a poster child for intimidation to others. This is taking a person off the streets and destroying their lives for no other reason than to make a point.
This is f-ed up to the max. It is despicable. Deplorable. Cruel. Inhumane. Torture sanctioned by the American government.
What will you do about it?
If this guy is the criminal the Administration says he is, make them prove it. Don’t allow them to simply whisk a person away to a hell on earth just because they either screwed up and won’t admit it, or want to send a message and are happy destroying lives to do so.
At his detention, Abrego Garcia’s wife looked at the ICE officers in the face and said, ‘Remember this moment when you go home and see your kids. You have once again kidnapped my husband.”
America has kidnapped her husband.
