An open letter to the U.S. Congress

Stop The DHS Solicitation for Offshore 1,000-Bed “International Staging Areas”!

561 so far! Help us get to 1,000 signers!

I am writing specifically to your staffer who handles immigration. Please be aware that DHS posted a solicitation on SAM.gov in July for offshore detention facilities holding up to 1,000 people each. It’s innocuously titled “Operational Support for Aircraft Maintenance and Services.” This solicitation asks for a fleet of aircraft and a network of up to 1,000-bed facilities it calls “International Staging Areas”, along with a clause covering what happens to detainees if the money runs out: nothing. DHS has already floated “100 million deportations” as a real number. Only 47 million people living in America were born somewhere else. Hitting 100 million means coming for citizens too, native-born and naturalized alike. So, this is urgent and nothing like we have faced before in this country. I want my Congressperson to (1) intervene immediately, (2) demand oversight, and (3) block the funding before this contract goes any further. Thank you very much.
