I am writing to express my deep opposition to Senate Bill 2 and to urge you to reconsider your support for this harmful legislation. Your role as a co-author of this bill is both disappointing and shameful. The proposed removal of low-income individuals, parents, and caregivers from Medicaid and the Healthy Indiana Plan (HIP) is an unjust and inhumane attack on some of our most vulnerable Hoosiers.
Access to healthcare is a fundamental right, not a privilege reserved for the wealthy. Medicaid and HIP provide a vital safety net that ensures families can access necessary medical care, keep their children healthy, and continue working without the fear of financial ruin due to medical expenses. By stripping coverage from those who need it most, SB 2 will directly harm thousands of Hoosiers, forcing them to make impossible choices between healthcare, rent, and food.
Instead of dismantling programs that serve our communities, you should be working to strengthen them. Your constituents—your neighbors—deserve better. They deserve leaders who will fight for their well-being, not politicians who prioritize budget cuts over human lives.
I urge you to withdraw your support for SB 2 and stand with the people who elected you. If you continue to support this legislation, you will be making it clear that you do not represent the interests of the hardworking people of Indiana. I, and many others, will remember your actions when it comes time to vote.
