The recent Israel military action in the occupied West Bank has severely hindered civilian access to essential medical care. According to Doctors Without Borders, it’s staff are restricted in their movement and the organization has been forced to suspend regular activities in Tulkarm and Jenin due to the situation. A paramedic recounted the harrowing experience, stating "Even while wearing my medical uniform, I was hit by munitions from the air and was injured above my eye and got shrapnel wounds." This is a blatant violation of international humanitarian law that requires protection of medical workers and unimpeded access to healthcare. In light of these grave developments, I urge an immediate imposition of an arms embargo on Israel to prevent further violence against civilians. The United Nations Relief and Works Agency (UNRWA), a vital provider of aid to Palestinian refugees, must also have its funding fully reinstated to address the growing humanitarian crisis. The recent Israel assault has caused immense suffering, and concrete actions are needed to hold Israel accountable.
