Greetings. I am a voting constituent in rural west Texas.
What we’re reading…
“Trump loyalists have been obstructing aid to Ukraine since President Joe Biden asked for it in October 2023. Their insistence that they would not address the national security needs of the U.S. in Ukraine until they were addressed at the border now sure looks like a smokescreen to help Russian president Vladimir Putin take Ukraine, a plan that would explain why Trump urged Republicans to kill the national security supplemental bill even when it included a strong border component that favored Republican positions.
It appears as though Trump is deliberately undermining the national security of the United States.”
Yes it does. It appears that way because that is a true statement.
We can read in multiple arenas how Trump’s decisions are based purely on self-interest…such as tax cuts cuts for the wealthy to up their donations to his political aspirations. (And legal fees natch.)
Example: current kerfuffle about TikTok and its influence. An influence that most likely benefits the Chinese government. And Chinese influence is nothing we want, right? So thought DJT, until an apparent meeting of the pocketbooks with rich donors. Now he seems to be talking out of the other side of his mouth.
And his donors will reward him appropriately. With the White House he expects.
Just another hypocritical stance of it’s bad until I say it’s not. Or vice versa. (Social Security and Medicare anyone?)
Y’all must have constant moral whiplash.
Quid pro quo is the name of the game. Anyone who believes that any power, or influence, or knowledge, or state secrets are safe with this man in the face of ‘what have you done for me lately’ or ‘what can you do for me today’ doesn’t deserve the ability to reason that we as a species is blessed to have.
Your political party is slow-walking us to a crisis of democracy. And a failure to lead. Snap out of your stupor. Break out of the herd that you are following blindly off the cliff. Use the power you have either covertly or overtly to be brave for the country.
Unless you just don’t care. Or rather, you care, but just not enough.
