Protect DOJ Integrity and Investigate Political Interference!

I am writing to express deep concern regarding the troubling reports of political interference within the Department of Justice (DOJ), as highlighted in recent coverage of the decision to dismiss federal corruption charges against New York City Mayor Eric Adams. The directive from Acting Deputy Attorney General Emil Bove to drop these charges—despite substantial evidence and the objections of career prosecutors—raises serious questions about the integrity of our justice system.
The fact that multiple DOJ officials, including U.S. Attorney Danielle Sassoon and senior leaders from the Public Integrity and Criminal Divisions, resigned in protest is alarming. These resignations suggest that legal professionals felt unable to uphold their ethical obligations due to political pressure. The circumstances surrounding this case indicate a potential quid pro quo arrangement, where the decision to dismiss charges may have been influenced by Mayor Adams’ cooperation with the administration on immigration policy.
The politicization of the DOJ is a direct threat to democracy and the rule of law. Allowing political considerations to override the fair application of justice erodes public trust and sets a dangerous precedent for future administrations. If corruption charges can be dismissed for political allies, what prevents the weaponization of the DOJ against political opponents?
I urge you to take immediate action to:
1 Launch a Congressional Investigation into the DOJ’s decision-making process regarding the Adams case, including whether political considerations influenced prosecutorial discretion.
2 Hold Public Hearings with former DOJ officials who resigned in protest to ensure transparency and accountability.
3 Strengthen Legislative Protections that safeguard the DOJ from political interference, ensuring prosecutorial independence is maintained.
The American people deserve a justice system that is fair, impartial, and free from political manipulation. I implore you to use your authority to uphold the integrity of the DOJ and prevent further erosion of democratic norms.
Thank you for your time and attention to this urgent matter. I look forward to your response and to seeing Congress take decisive action to restore confidence in our justice system.
