The inhumane and unacceptable conditions at the Dade-Collier Training and Transition Facility, dubbed "Alligator Alcatraz," are deeply concerning. Reports from lawmakers who toured the facility describe detained individuals held in overcrowded cages, forced to drink water from toilets, subjected to unsanitary eating conditions, and denied proper medical care - a clear violation of basic human rights. This facility was established without proper environmental permitting, damaging sensitive wetlands and habitats. It is appalling that government resources are being misused to operate what essentially amounts to an internment camp in the Everglades. Such egregious mistreatment of human beings should not be tolerated in a society that upholds human dignity. Immediate action must be taken to shut down this facility and ensure all individuals are treated with the respect they deserve, regardless of immigration status.
