An open letter to the U.S. Congress

Oppose the proposed SAVE Act

27 so far! Help us get to 50 signers!

This proposed SAVE Act would impose burdensome new requirements for voter registration that risk depressing voter participation, especially among marginalized communities. Tens of millions of eligible citizens lack easy access to documentary proof of citizenship like birth certificates or passports. The obligation to show these documents in person at government offices creates transportation and scheduling barriers. Married women who changed their names face additional documentation needs under the bill. Election officials have raised serious concerns about implementation challenges and potential criminal penalties. While protecting election integrity is crucial, this bill seems likely to disenfranchise many legitimate voters without substantiated evidence of widespread issues with noncitizen voting. I urge you to reject this legislation as it stands and prioritize measures that safeguard voter rights and access to the democratic process for all eligible citizens.
