Defend IDEA's equity for students with disabilities

The Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA) plays a vital role in ensuring that all students with disabilities, regardless of their socioeconomic background, have access to the individualized educational services they need. Without IDEA's protections and funding administered by the Department of Education, students from low-income families would be at a significant disadvantage in obtaining the specialized support, accommodations, and resources necessary for their educational success. Dismantling the Department of Education jeopardizes this crucial program, leaving many disabled students without the means to receive a free and appropriate public education as required by law. Putting the management of education under states is not the answer, as some states like Arizona are defunding public schools every chance they get by funneling tax dollars to private and charter schools, which, despite what they say, are not willing to serve all children and their needs. It is imperative that IDEA and its administration remain intact to uphold the rights and meet the needs of all students with disabilities, not just those from affluent families. Preserving this program is essential for promoting true educational equity.
