Prioritize cracking down on far-right extremist threats

The administration's plan to shift counterterrorism efforts away from monitoring violent far-right groups like the Proud Boys and accelerationist movements is deeply concerning. Ignoring the rising threat of white nationalist extremism and domestic terrorism will only enable these dangerous forces to grow stronger. Data shows domestic terrorism cases linked to far-right militants have skyrocketed in recent years, reaching over 9,000 in 2021 alone. Pardoning the insurrectionists involved in the January 6th attack and removing experienced officials tasked with combating this threat is a reckless dereliction of duty that jeopardizes public safety. We urge a course correction to prioritize cracking down on violent hate groups and racism-fueled extremism, which has proven to be one of the gravest dangers facing our nation's security and democratic institutions. Failing to take this scourge seriously will only enable further political violence and erosion of civil society.
