An open letter to the U.S. Congress

Demand Enforcement of Hatch Act Violations by DHS on Twitter

5 so far! Help us get to 10 signers!

What are you doing to enforce the Hatch Act? If the answer is nothing, you need to explain why you deserve to remain in office. The Department of Homeland Security has repeatedly used its official Twitter account to post content that appears to violate federal law prohibiting political activity by government agencies. These posts blur the line between official communications and campaign messaging, yet I've seen no consequences. When officials break this law and face no real penalties, it sends a clear message that the rules don't matter. You have oversight authority. Use it. Demand accountability from the Office of Special Counsel regarding DHS's social media activity. Push for meaningful penalties that actually deter violations. If you're not willing to enforce basic ethics laws against agencies like DHS that have massive platforms and influence, what exactly are you doing for your constituents? I expect a specific answer about what actions you've taken regarding DHS's Twitter violations and what you plan to do going forward. General statements about supporting ethics won't cut it.
