I’m writing today not to ask for anything new, but to offer my encouragement and full-throated support for the work you’re already doing to protect our democracy and the lives of everyday Americans.
James Carville’s recent article in The Guardian (July 21, 2025) struck a chord with me. His advice was simple and urgent: “We demand a repeal.” Repeal the Trump-era spending law that puts Social Security and Medicaid on the chopping block. Repeal the deficit-busting giveaways. Repeal the endless wars. Carville’s call is clear: focus relentlessly on the real-world issues that affect people’s lives—and fight back hard.
To that, I would add:
Repeal the pre-steal—the gerrymandering happening in places like Texas and Missouri that silences thousands of voters before a single ballot is cast.
Repeal ICE’s unchecked power, which not only terrorizes immigrant communities but creates fear among citizens and *raises costs* for all of us by criminalizing essential labor.
Repeal Trump’s militarized hold on our cities, where he deploys National Guard troops like chess pieces—as he’s already done in LA, D.C., and is planning to do in Memphis and New Orleans.
Repeal his grip on the First Amendment, where late-night hosts are fired not because of misconduct, but because they dared to joke.
If the public is asking, “What does the Democratic Party stand for?”—the answer can be: We stand for safety, dignity, truth, and freedom. And we demand a repeal of anything that threatens them.
I know I’m preaching to the choir here. You’ve been on the front lines. You’ve taken the hits. And still, you stand. Please know that I—and many others like me—are standing with you.
Let’s keep marching toward the midterms with boldness, strategy, and heart. And let’s remind the American people what we’re fighting for—and who we’re fighting for.
