Protect Free Speech: Demand FCC Chair Carr's Resignation

1 so far! Help us get to 5 signers!

I am deeply concerned about the recent actions of FCC Chair Brendan Carr regarding his apparent threat to broadcast companies over Jimmy Kimmel's monologue. This behavior represents a dangerous precedent of government overreach and a clear threat to our First Amendment rights. As your constituent, I urge you to take immediate action to protect our constitutional freedoms. We cannot allow government officials to weaponize their positions against free speech, regardless of political affiliation. The FCC's role is to regulate communications, not to censor or intimidate broadcasters based on content. This situation is particularly alarming given the contrast with previous Republican criticism of the Biden administration for allegedly pressuring social media companies on COVID-19 information. We must maintain consistency in our defense of free speech principles. Former President Obama has rightly condemned ABC's decision to suspend Kimmel's program, calling it "government coercion." This assessment from a leader who understands the weight of executive influence underscores the severity of the situation. While individuals may disagree with Kimmel's comments, it is not the government's role to police speech or pressure private companies into censorship. This is a slippery slope that could lead to further erosion of our fundamental rights. I respectfully request that you: 1. Publicly call for FCC Chair Brendan Carr's resignation. 2. Introduce or support legislation to strengthen protections against government interference in media content. 3. Launch a congressional inquiry into the FCC's actions in this matter. The integrity of our democratic institutions depends on maintaining a free and open discourse, even when that discourse is controversial. We must act now to prevent the weaponization of government agencies against free speech. Our nation's founders enshrined these protections in the First Amendment for good reason, and it is our duty to uphold them. Thank you for your attention to this critical issue. I look forward to your response and action on this matter.
