US Attorney for the DC, Ed Martin, is acting as Trump’s personal lawyer?

Martin posted on X (formerly Twitter), “As President Trump’s lawyers, we are proud to fight to protect his leadership as our President and we are vigilant in standing against entities like the AP that refuse to put America first.” This statement, and his actions, represent a dangerous erosion of the judicial system’s independence. The U.S. Attorney’s role is to serve the interests of the United States, not to protect or advance any political leader’s agenda. According to U.S. Code, the duty of the U.S. Attorney for the District of Columbia is to represent the United States in legal matters—not to serve as a personal attorney for the president. Martin’s comments suggest an alarming failure to fulfill this duty and reflect a disturbing politicization of his office. Such conduct undermines the integrity and impartiality of the Department of Justice and poses a threat to the foundational principles of our judicial system. I urge you to take immediate action to hold Martin accountable and consider disbarment to restore the trust and integrity of the U.S. Attorney’s office.
