Return industry regulations to reduce methane emissions

Methane is a highly potent greenhouse gas that is over 80 times more powerful than carbon dioxide in trapping heat over a 20-year period. Allowing excessive methane emissions from the oil and gas industry will undermine global efforts to mitigate climate change and fulfill commitments under the Paris Agreement. Reinstating a regulatory fee on methane emissions is crucial for incentivizing the industry to adopt cleaner practices and invest in capturing this pollutant. Failure to take decisive action on curbing methane now will exacerbate temperature rise, sea level increase, extreme weather events, and other catastrophic climate impacts that threaten lives and livelihoods worldwide. We must prioritize environmental protection and climate stability for the sake of present and future generations.
