Legislature needs to overturn veto of SB 418

Important LGBTQIA legislation was passed and signed into law this session, and for that I am thankful to the state legislature and the governor. However, Governor Newsom shamefully vetoed SB 418. This bill would allow for anyone, including trans folks, to obtain a year’s worth of necessary, life supporting medication at a time when access is threatened at national and local levels. To be clear, this is not just a trans issue, many cisgender folks rely on hormone therapies for a multitude of reasons. I urge the state legislature to overturn this veto. Gavin Newsom can play politics with people’s lives, but the legislature has the opportunity to reaffirm their decision on this piece of legislation and provide the assistance regular people need. Newsom can get his political points with the mythical center he’s courting and we can actually do the will of the people.
