An open letter to the U.S. Congress

Tax and regulatory changes could support good budget and population wellbeing

As has been mentioned by the White House, we should definitely raise taxes on ultra-wealthy people, close tax loopholes especially in business and stock areas, and stop tax favoritism for industries— especially ones that are harmful like the oil industry. It may also be possible to revise regulations to not favor big business over small, especially in areas like agriculture, pharmaceuticals, and banking, which could easily increase consumer spending power and well-being (though it would likely have a short-term negative impact on jobs, which should stabilize especially if paired with small business loans). Look to our own Washington State for an example of business regulations favorable to small business. Of course, it's always in the interest in the government to promote the general wellbeing of everyone here. If someone is proposing something that reduces the general welfare of our population (like work requirements for poverty assistance), that is counter to our nation's most basic values. We can both solve our fiscal problems and increase the general wellbeing of our population. all the best.
