An open letter to the U.S. Congress

Restore the Office to Monitor and Combat Trafficking in Persons

2 so far! Help us get to 5 signers!

The State Department's decision to drastically cut staff from the Office to Monitor and Combat Trafficking in Persons is highly concerning. This office plays a vital role in combating the heinous crime of human trafficking on a global scale. Its work includes producing an annual report that grades countries' efforts to combat trafficking, managing programs to strengthen civil society and assist other nations, and training prosecutors. By decimating this office, the administration is undermining longstanding bipartisan efforts to end modern-day slavery and protect vulnerable populations from exploitation. Given the reprehensible nature of human trafficking and its prevalence worldwide, it is unacceptable to dismantle the very office dedicated to tackling this issue. The administration must reverse course and restore full funding and staffing to this critical office to uphold America's commitment to human rights and ensure robust anti-trafficking measures remain in place.
