Dealing with wildfires

There is a serious long term issue brewing: wildfires. Currently wildfires are consuming valuable vegetation, threatening crops and livestock as well as homes and businesses, and creating a serious air quality problem. The wildfires affect both the US and Canada. We can no longer fight these fires with traditional resources and methods. The US and Canada need to work together to create new techniques and new equipment geared towards fighting large and numerous wildfires. The US needs to reallocate some of the military defense budget to a new wildfire defense department, and defense contractors, government labs, and think tanks need to be directed to design and develop equipment tailored to dealing with this new problem.
