Government corruption undermines public trust and erodes faith in our democratic institutions. It is imperative we take decisive action to eliminate undue influence from special interests and restore integrity to the political process. Rep. Ro Khanna's proposed Drain The Swamp Act, which would permanently prohibit White House officials from accepting gifts from lobbyists, is one measure worth considering. Banning stock trading by members of Congress and prohibiting them from accepting corporate PAC money would help sever ties between personal profit motives and policymaking. Additionally, cracking down on the revolving door of lawmakers becoming lobbyists after leaving office would curb the pernicious sway of monied interests over legislation. Real reform requires bold systemic changes, not mere window dressing. Implementing binding ethics codes for lawmakers and Supreme Court justices, as well as term limits for both, would promote accountability and prevent power from becoming too entrenched. Ultimately, we need a government of, by and for the people - one that prioritizes the public good over corporate greed and partisan gamesmanship. This anti-corruption agenda represents a vital first step towards realizing that ideal and renewing Americans' faith in their representatives.
