Protect Chicago and Illinois from Unconstitutional Action
1 so far! Help us get to 5 signers!
I am writing to express my deep concern over former President Trump's recent statements about potentially invading Chicago with federal forces. This alarming declaration, made during a press conference in the Oval Office, represents a grave threat to our constitutional rights and the autonomy of our state.
The prospect of militarizing local police forces is profoundly disturbing and goes against the principles of community policing that have been proven effective. Such action would likely escalate tensions and undermine the trust between law enforcement and the communities they serve. And crime rates are already declining.
As my representative, I urge you to take immediate and decisive action to protect Chicago from any unconstitutional federal police action. This includes:
1. Publicly denouncing any plans for federal intervention in Chicago's law enforcement.
2. Working with state and local officials to develop a comprehensive strategy to resist any unconstitutional federal overreach.
3. Introducing or supporting legislation that reinforces state and local authority over law enforcement matters.
4. Engaging with community leaders to ensure that the voices of Chicago residents are heard and respected in this matter.
The Constitution clearly delineates the separation of powers between federal and state governments. Any attempt by the federal government to usurp local law enforcement authority without proper jurisdiction or invitation is a clear violation of these principles.
Time is of the essence. With Trump's statements indicating potential action against Chicago following his focus on Washington D.C., we must act swiftly to safeguard our autonomy and the rights of our citizens. Please prioritize this issue and keep me informed of the steps you are taking to protect Chicago from this unconstitutional threat.
Our state’s future and the integrity of our democratic system depend on your action. Thank you for your attention to this critical matter.
