I am writing to express my strong opposition to the proposal that would allow individuals to purchase U.S. citizenship through what has been referred to as a “gold card” system. The idea of selling American citizenship to the highest bidder is fundamentally wrong and undermines the core values upon which this country was built.
Citizenship is not something that should be treated as a commodity, available only to those with the financial means to afford it. This proposal completely disregards the principles of fairness, equality, and opportunity that make America the beacon of hope for people around the world. It turns the American Dream into a privilege for the wealthy, leaving out those who have worked hard, contributed, and sought to build a better life through dedication and merit.
Furthermore, this scheme could expose the U.S. to individuals with questionable backgrounds who may seek to exploit our system for personal gain. Allowing money to be the deciding factor in who becomes a U.S. citizen opens the door to risks that could jeopardize our security, integrity, and values.
I urge you to reject this proposal and stand firm in defending the values of fairness and opportunity that are central to our national identity. The idea of selling citizenship is a dangerous precedent and should have no place in the future of our country.
Thank you for your time and consideration of this critical issue. I look forward to hearing your stance on this matter.
