The establishment of April 9th as a national holiday, termed "New Birth of Freedom Day," is a necessary step towards acknowledging the Union's victory and the abolition of slavery. This day would serve as a reminder of the need for continuous self-improvement and a more accurate understanding of our history. Additionally, it is crucial to reconsider federal support for monuments that glorify the Confederacy and its leaders. These monuments perpetuate a romanticized narrative of the Civil War, which is not in line with the historical truth. Therefore, it is requested to support the initiative of making April 9th a national holiday and reevaluating the federal support for Confederate monuments. This would contribute to a more inclusive and truthful representation of our shared history.
