A 4 year old died today, 6/14. His name is Tawfiq Abu Yousef. Tawfiq miraculously survived the Nuseirat refugee camp massacre you forced U.S. soldiers both on the ground and via operational planning to participate in. I remember when I saw Tawfiq 7 days ago from videos of the immediate aftermath of the slaughter. His head was smashed open - brain exposed. His father cradled his body thinking he was dead. Tawfiq moved in his arms, a true miracle of survival. He was rushed to the hospital. After 7 days of fighting, he died today because there is not medical care available in Gaza to provide the intensive care required to save the lives of Palestinians. The injuries suffered at the hands of Israeli forces are often complex, severe, and disabling. We will never know if Tawfiq could have survived if he had been given a real chance. Tawfiq's parents have now lost 2 children to this genocide. His father's heartbroken words memorializing the toddler: "Tawfiq was everything to me, my son, my brother, and my friend."
Yesterday, it was the tragedy of another Gazan child's unjustifiable and unnecessary murder. Hanan Za'anin was slowly murdered by starvation due to Israel's complete blockade and restriction of humanitarian aid into Gaza. Her small, weak body was completely skeletal on her death bed. I wonder who it will be tomorrow. Will it be Ghassan Al-Qishawi, a child with cerebral palsy who is currently dying in northern Gaza? Will it be 3 year old Amjad Al-Qanoua from Jabalia who weighs a disturbing 5 kilograms due to Israel's manufactured famine? How many Palestinian children will you condemn to death? Just at the Kamal Adwan Hospital alone, 200 children are at imminent risk of death by starvation. How many more must die before you stop this?
I demand that you:
– Hold Israel accountable for a permanent, immediate ceasefire, their violations of the Genocide Convention, and gross human rights violations by any means necessary
– Call for the immediate end of Israel’s occupation and apartheid and support Palestinians in their fight for freedom and peace
– Secure the immediate release and safety of all Palestinians who have been abducted and held captive by Israel, including those whose indefinite detention began prior to 10/7
– Permanently end all monetary, diplomatic, and military aid given to Israel and enforce Leahy Law
– Reallocate all funds given to Israel and commit additional resources for ongoing humanitarian relief for Palestinians starting with immediately resuming funding of UNRWA
– Immediately withdraw all U.S. troops, military assets, and all other assets deployed throughout the Middle East and cease all actions that further escalate a larger regional conflict
– Pass legislation that voids all anti-BDS laws at the federal level
– Vote no on H.R. 7521 and any similar legislation proposed
