Hold hearings on Donald Trump Jr.'s financial relationship with Umar Kremlev, a Russian oligarch with direct ties to Vladimir Putin. ProPublica has reported that Kremlev paid hundreds of thousands of dollars in wedding expenses for Trump Jr. in May, including renting a private island and funding a $70,000 fireworks show. The payments came through IB Challenger, a Dubai entity linked to the International Boxing Association, which is financed by Gazprom, Russia's state-owned energy giant. This is not a personal gift between friends. This is a Putin-connected operative buying access to the president's son. Trump Jr. is not a private citizen. He reportedly vetted cabinet picks for his father's second term and was called Trump's "most essential political adviser" by the Wall Street Journal. Meanwhile, Kremlev has been openly seeking U.S. government favor, writing directly to President Trump after the inauguration. Former FBI counterintelligence official Frank Montoya Jr. put it plainly: "If I'm paying for your wedding, at some point, you're going to owe me something." Congress needs to find out what that something is.
