I am writing to express my deep concern over the rapidly increasing rate that Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) is harshly and unjustly deporting people from the United States. ICE's practices violate due process rights, as deportations are occurring without granting individuals the time or opportunity to speak with lawyers, contest their removal, or even speak with their family members. These actions are not only inhumane but also raise serious questions about the violation of fundamental rights.
Recent deportations have caused immense unnecessary suffering, particularly for the children involved. A 4-year-old child suffering from a rare form of cancer was deported to Honduras within a day of being arrested. Another case involved a pregnant mother and her 2-year-old daughter, who were deported despite the father's legal delegation of custody to a U.S. citizen relative. It is hard to believe that ICE is not intentionally inflicting this pain and suffering on immigrant families, when their targets include young children and their mothers, who are arrested as they complete routine check-ins at ICE offices.
The aggressive tactics used by ICE are immoral, unjust, and do not align with the American values of fairness and compassion. Please speak up and take immediate action to stop these deportations and help restore trust in our government for those simply pursuing the American dream.
