Support Needed for Ukraine Aid Now

I am writing to you as a concerned citizen, deeply invested in the principles of democracy and international solidarity, to express my strong support for continuing and enhancing U.S. aid to Ukraine. The recent passage of the stopgap funding bill, while necessary to keep our government operational, notably lacked new funding for Ukraine—a concerning omission given the ongoing conflict and its implications not only for Ukraine but for global security and democracy.
The bipartisan support for Ukraine since February 2022 has been a testament to the United States' commitment to countering unprovoked aggression and supporting nations striving to maintain their sovereignty against overwhelming odds. It is crucial that this support does not waver. The absence of new funding amidst the current appropriations process sends a precarious signal, not only to our allies but also to our adversaries.
U.S. military aid to Ukraine is not merely an act of charity; it is a strategic investment in our own national security and economic prosperity. This aid has significantly weakened Russia's military capabilities while simultaneously bolstering the U.S. defense industry and creating American jobs. More than 13,000 units of Russian military equipment have been destroyed, and Russia's war expenditures have soared, thanks in large part to U.S. support for Ukraine.
Furthermore, the stakes of this conflict extend beyond Ukraine's borders. Russia's aggressive posture towards NATO member states poses a direct threat to European security and, by extension, to U.S. national interests. The provision of aid to Ukraine serves as a deterrent against further Russian expansionism, potentially saving the U.S. from far greater future expenditures in terms of both finances and human lives.
I urge you to advocate for the passage of a standalone bill or support a discharge petition to ensure the foreign aid package, with specific provisions for Ukraine, is passed. It is imperative that we do not allow Russia to dictate the terms of international engagement through its actions. The cost of inaction is far too high—both for the people of Ukraine and for the global democratic order.
Thank you for considering my views on this matter. Your leadership in ensuring continued support for Ukraine will not only help secure a democratic ally but will also reinforce the United States' position as a defender of freedom and democracy worldwide.
