Recent research by MuckRock reveals that Michigan ranks among the top 10 states with a median FOIA fee of $151, creating significant barriers to transparency and citizen engagement. The issue of fee bullying in FOIA requests is unacceptable. These excessive costs hinder our right to access essential government information. I implore you to introduce legislation that addresses this problem head-on. It's crucial to ensure fair and reasonable fee structures that do not deter citizens from seeking transparency. Michigan residents deserve open and accountable government, and reforming FOIA practices is a crucial step towards this goal. I urge you to take action to improve FOIA accessibility and end fee bullying.
