Trump seems to currently be acting in Putin’s interest, telling lies and trampling on our long-standing European allies. Congressional leaders need to speak out against Trump’s anti-democratic narrative, his attack on civil servants, his attack on DEI, his ending of programs that were congressionally paid for(USAID), his lies about Ukraine supposedly starting the war, and his attempt to consolidate power in the executive branch by utilizing his created Elon Musk-run DOGE team to do his bidding without government oversight. Congress holds the power of the purse and must not abdicate its role in our system of checks and balances. Please realize that many of your constituents are not hardened Trump supporters and would like to be represented in Congress, too. Our system of government has worked for these many years because our foundational documents were written in such a way to make them strong enough to withstand both corruption and incompetence. Please see that you do your best to honor the Constitution. I am very concerned about the President’s intentions in terms of protecting democracy in the world. It is hard to say you are a democratic nation when your president presents himself as a King. He is currently declaring himself in a post as a king. None of this is “normal” and should not be tolerated by congressional leaders who ought to have the courage to speak out about what is right, no matter their party. Loyalty to one’s country supersedes loyalty to a party and especially should supersede loyalty to an individual.
