I urge you to reject the dangerous provision in the House-passed budget reconciliation bill that would impose a 10-year moratorium on all state and local AI regulations.
This sweeping ban would strip states of the ability to protect their residents from well-known and emerging harms caused by artificial intelligence, including algorithmic bias in hiring, deepfake disinformation, AI-driven surveillance, and more.
States nationwide have already started developing common-sense safeguards. Blocking these efforts would halt progress, eliminate accountability, and hand over our future to unregulated corporate actors.
There is no justification for a decade-long ban. This is not responsible governance, it’s federal overreach, plain and simple. And by tying compliance to billions in funding for internet expansion, it’s a lose-lose for everyone but Big Tech.
I urge you to strip this provision from the final bill and vote against any version that includes it.
