Block the "Dismantling Government Act" of 2025 (H.R. 1295)

​I am writing to urge you to do everything you can to block The Reorganizing Government Act of 2025 (H.R. 1295), introduced by Chairman James Comer (R-KY) on February 13, 2025. This bill aims to amend the Reorganization Act Amendments of 1984 by reauthorizing the President's authority to propose government reorganization plans. These plans would be subject to a simple up-or-down vote in Congress within 90 days, bypassing the Senate filibuster and requiring only a simple majority for approval. ​ In theory, the bill seeks to streamline federal operations by allowing the President to eliminate unnecessary programs and reduce duplication among the over 400 federal departments, agencies, and subagencies. ​However, the bill grants excessive power to the President, potentially undermining the independence of regulatory agencies and leading to significant cuts in essential government services. It leaves the door wide open for misuse of this authority, especially given past actions by the Trump administration. This is causing the bill to take on the name "Dismantling Government Act" by many, including ranking member of oversight and government committee Gerry Connolly, as this is exactly what it would be used to do. We are already having our rights stripped from us with seemingly no pushback. When there is pushback from the Judicial branch of the government, the Executive branch tries their best to ignore it. They cannot be trusted with any more power than they already have, and you must do everything available in your power to stop this travesty of a bill. The time for respectability and decorum is long over. Stop this bill.
