Remove Leo Terrell - Unqualified DOJ Official Harming Jewish Students

The Justice Department’s antisemitism task force is failing Jewish students while weaponizing their safety concerns for political attacks on higher education. Real antisemitism requires serious professionals, not Leo Terrell, a lawyer with nearly $400,000 in unpaid federal taxes, personal bankruptcy, and federal courts condemning his “woeful representation” as “abysmal” (6th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals, 2018). ProPublica reveals he operated from a UPS store mailbox, faced dozens of unpaid creditor judgments, and falsified his government financial disclosures. This is who Trump chose to protect Jewish Americans.
Terrell has turned antisemitism enforcement into unconstitutional political theater. He publicly threatens to “bankrupt” universities before investigations conclude, freezes billions in medical research funding without due process, and screams at career Justice attorneys following proper procedures. Jewish organizations like the Jewish Council for Public Affairs oppose his “dangerous” weaponization of their concerns. Meanwhile, 70% of experienced Civil Rights Division attorneys have fled, leaving Jewish students with fewer qualified advocates than before.
The dual crisis is clear: Jewish students face real antisemitism while losing their most experienced federal protectors, and universities conducting cancer and Alzheimer’s research face extortionate demands. Columbia surrendered $221 million, Harvard lost $2.6 billion in frozen funding, and UCLA faces a $1 billion penalty—not for failing Jewish students, but for refusing to eliminate diversity programs and submit to federal monitoring of admissions and hiring.
I demand you take two immediate actions: First, launch oversight hearings into Terrell’s fitness for office, including his falsified financial disclosures and abandonment of due process protections. Second, demand restoration of professional antisemitism enforcement by requiring qualified career attorneys lead investigations and ensuring universities receive due process before funding decisions. Jewish students deserve real protection, not cynical political theater that destroys both their safety and our nation’s research institutions.
