An open letter to the U.S. Congress

Demand Accountability for DOJ Failures Under the Epstein Files Transparency Act

26 so far! Help us get to 50 signers!

I am writing to express my outrage regarding the Department of Justice’s recent handling of the records released under the Epstein Files Transparency Act. The "politically exposed persons" list released on February 14th is a failure of both transparency and common sense, and I am demanding that you hold the DOJ accountable for what appears to be a deliberate attempt to obfuscate the truth. The DOJ’s current approach is a travesty for several reasons: -- Incompetent Redaction Standards: The department has conflated figures who have no possible connection to Jeffrey Epstein’s crimes—such as Janis Joplin—with convicted sex offenders like Larry Nassar. By releasing a list of names without context or "guilt-by-association" disclaimers, the DOJ is creating a media circus rather than a judicial record. -- Failure to Protect Victims: It is unacceptable that the DOJ spent months redacting the names of powerful officials while simultaneously failing to redact the names and personal contact information of survivors, as reported earlier this month. -- Selective Transparency: While the DOJ claims it is not redacting for "reputational harm," it continues to withhold millions of pages under vague claims of privilege. This is a direct violation of the spirit, if not the letter, of the Transparency Act. As my representative, I urge you to: 1.. Subpoena the unredacted files: Ensure that Congress, not just the DOJ, determines what information is truly "privileged." 2.. Demand a Categorized List: Require the DOJ to re-release the "Politically Exposed Persons" list with clear categories (e.g., flight log passenger, press clipping reference, or investigative target). 3.. Investigate the "Spying" Allegations: Address recent reports that the DOJ has been tracking the search history of lawmakers reviewing these files. We are a nation of laws, and justice for the victims of Jeffrey Epstein’s network requires an honest accounting, not a curated list designed to protect the powerful while slandering the irrelevant.
