Alligator Alcatraz is a modern-day Manzanar, a place of dehumanization masquerading as law enforcement. The construction of this detention facility in the Florida Everglades illustrates a troubling disregard for human rights and dignity. Detaining migrants, many of whom have not committed crimes, in such inhumane conditions surrounded by dangerous wildlife is unacceptable. This facility epitomizes an enforcement-only approach to immigration that prioritizes cruelty over compassion. Moreover, the rushed construction has circumvented critical environmental review processes, threatening fragile ecosystems and endangered species. Proposals to massively expand detention and deportation operations through draconian policies and spending measures are alarming. They reinforce an un-American xenophobic agenda that sacrifices our nation's principles and values. I urge you to vigorously oppose the funding and operation of Alligator Alcatraz and similar facilities that violate human rights. Instead, support humane and lawful immigration policies that respect due process while addressing root causes through diplomacy and foreign aid. The current course embraces injustice over justice and fear over hope. We must chart a new path rooted in our ideals as a nation of immigrants.
