Don’t Erase a Pearl Harbor Hero to Make Room for Trump’s Ego

Doris Miller was an American hero. Period. On December 7, 1941, during the attack on Pearl Harbor, Miller served aboard the USS West Virginia. Under heavy enemy fire, he helped move wounded sailors and then manned an anti-aircraft gun despite having no formal training on it, defending his ship and fellow service members during an unprecedented surprise attack. Now, reports that the U.S. Navy may remove his name from CVN-81—and even considering to name the aircraft carrier after Donald Trump—is a disgusting insult to Miller, veterans, and every American who has served this country with honor. Donald Trump does not need another vanity monument. Our military is not a branding opportunity. Warships should honor those who demonstrated courage, sacrifice, and service—not politicians seeking to stamp their name on every institution in sight. Renaming this carrier would not honor America. It would erase the legacy of a man who risked his life in the defense of his country and replace him with a monument to presidential ego. Make this craziness stop. Congress, state leaders, and our military leadership please use your platform to speak out on this travesty. You must put a stop to this nonsense immediately. CVN-81 should remain the USS Doris Miller. Do not allow the memory of a genuine American hero to be pushed aside for another unwanted and unnecessary Trump vanity project. Doris Miller earned this honor. He was a naval veteran. A Pearl Harbor survivor. He was an unmistakable American Hero. Celebrate Doris Miller with this honor. He deserves it!
