An open letter to the U.S. Supreme Court

Defend state sovereignty, oppose federal overreach on immigration

Opposing the federal government's lawsuit against state and local sanctuary policies undermines principles of federalism and states' rights. Allowing states and cities the autonomy to set their own immigration enforcement priorities is a reasonable exercise of state sovereignty that should be protected. This lawsuit represents an overreach of federal power and an infringement on the ability of states to govern themselves in line with the wishes of their residents. Upholding sanctuary jurisdictions preserves local control and prevents the conscription of state resources into enforcing disputed federal policies. I urge you to defend states' rights by supporting the legal challenges against this misguided lawsuit.
