Congress: Oppose Interior Sec’y’s Personal Obstruction of Clean Energy Projects

I’m writing to urge you to oppose the new order requiring Interior Secretary Burgum to personally approve all wind and solar projects on federal lands. So, effectively, Doug Burgum has positioned himself as “authoritarian human red tape.” Unacceptable.
It’s an unnecessary roadblock that will hamstring the development of renewable energy sources at a critical time. Clean energy advocates rightly warn this action will hamper projects from qualifying for expiring federal tax credits crucial to their viability.
At a time when energy demand is rapidly increasing and climate change necessitates a transition to sustainable sources, adding bureaucratic red tape that obstructs the growth of wind and solar power is counterproductive.
The rationale of "ending preferential treatment" for renewables is idiotic, as the urgency to combat climate change through clean energy should be the priority. Wind and solar provide reliable baseload power and reinforce American energy independence far more than continued reliance on finite fossil fuels. This has been proven in many states and countries around the world as well.
Streamlining the permitting process, not subjecting it to excessive scrutiny, is required to maintain U.S. leadership in this vital sector.
I urge you to hold hearings and demand accountability about this foolish and obstructive this policy that disadvantages renewables just as their large-scale adoption is imperative.
Removing Doug Burgum ask an arbitrary regulatory barrier will accelerate the shift to an affordable, sustainable energy future benefiting all.
Assemble legal allies, brief them, and have them sue Doug Burgum personally until he relents.
Thank you.
