An open letter to the U.S. Congress

Support H.R. 4180 to Ban Cyanide Bombs on Public Lands

Support H.R. 4180 and ban M-44 cyanide devices from our public lands. The Trump administration just reversed a Biden-era prohibition on these spring-loaded poison traps on Bureau of Land Management lands, and the new memo allows resumed deployment through 2031. A cyanide bomb doesn't know the difference between a coyote and an endangered wolf. It doesn't know the difference between a predator and a family's golden retriever — or a target animal and a child. That last point isn't hypothetical. In 2017, 14-year-old Canyon Mansfield was sprayed by one of these devices placed in the hills behind his Idaho home. His dog Kasey died. Canyon survived. These are indiscriminate killers, and they have no place on lands that belong to all of us. H.R. 4180 would end this threat to wildlife, pets, and people. Please co-sponsor and support it.
