An open letter to the U.S. Congress

This Is Not Policing. Stop ICE

22 so far! Help us get to 25 signers!

I am writing to demand immediate action following the killing of Renee Nicole Good by an ICE agent yesterday. The video evidence that has circulated publicly shows no indication that Ms. Good was attempting to use her vehicle as a weapon. What it does show is ICE officers reaching into her car, threatening her, and escalating an already volatile situation. Ms. Good was attempting to flee a frightening and unlawful encounter—not harm anyone. The claim that her vehicle posed a lethal threat is not supported by the footage. Since then, the administration has issued shifting and contradictory statements, including assertions that the agent involved required hospitalization. These claims appear designed to retroactively justify lethal force and are directly contradicted by the video evidence. This is not acceptable. Even more alarming, the investigation has now been taken over by the FBI, with local authorities reportedly shut out. That is not transparency. That is the groundwork for a cover-up. ICE has repeatedly demonstrated that it is incapable of carrying out its mandate without extreme violence, deception, and disregard for human life. Its agents are not adequately trained to handle high-stress civilian encounters, yet they are armed and empowered to act with lethal force. This combination is deadly—and it has now taken another life. ICE should be abolished. At a minimum, Congress must immediately: -Suspend ICE operations pending a full, independent investigation -Hold public hearings with subpoena power -Block further funding for ICE -Require full public release of all body camera footage and communications -Ensure accountability for the agent involved, without federal interference that shields wrongdoing The killing of Renee Nicole Good was not an accident. It was the foreseeable result of a system that prioritizes intimidation over public safety and grants armed officers impunity when violence occurs. I am asking you to act now—not issue statements, not defer responsibility, but take concrete steps to stop further violence and loss of life. History will judge who stood up when it mattered.
