Unconstitutional/Illegal Deportations to El Salvador
3 so far! Help us get to 5 signers!
I am writing to express urgent concern about the recent deportations of individuals from the U.S. to a high-security prison in El Salvador. These removals appear to violate constitutional protections and due process, and I respectfully ask for your immediate attention.
Reports suggest these individuals were deported under the Alien Enemies Act. However, Venezuela—where many deportees are from—is not at war with the United States and has not engaged in hostilities that would justify such action. Using this statute as a legal basis is factually and legally unsound, and sets a dangerous precedent.
Unlawful Application of the Alien Enemies Act
The Act was designed for times of declared war, not peacetime or strained diplomatic relations. Applying it now without congressional authorization or legitimate justification undermines our legal system and endangers the rights of non-citizens who should be afforded due process under U.S. law. This misuse must be thoroughly investigated and halted.
Request for Transparency
I respectfully request the immediate release of the names and details of those deported to El Salvador under this program. Transparency is vital to ensure accountability and to safeguard the rights and wellbeing of those affected.
Urgent Call for Repatriation
These individuals must be returned to the U.S. at once. The conditions of their confinement are reportedly severe, and their deportation was unjust. The United States must correct this harm and reaffirm its commitment to justice and constitutional protections.
Thank you for your service and for taking swift action on this matter.
