I’m writing to strongly urge you to oppose the SAVE Act, a bill that’s not about protecting elections—but about making it harder for eligible Americans to vote.
The name “Safeguard American Voter Eligibility” is misleading. It suggests there’s a problem with noncitizen voting, but decades of research show that kind of fraud is almost nonexistent. This bill creates barriers where none are needed.
If passed, the SAVE Act would especially hurt:
• Young voters, people of color, low-income communities, and the elderly
• Naturalized citizens who already face enough hurdles
• Women who changed their name after marriage, since many don’t have updated documents that match across the board
It would also impose real financial burdens on everyday people. For example:
• Replacing a birth certificate costs $10–$50, depending on the state.
• A passport costs at least $130.
• Many would have to pay for travel, time off work, or even marriage certificates just to meet documentation rules.
These requirements especially hurt those already facing economic hardship.
It doesn’t solve a problem—it creates one, by blocking voters who are less likely to support conservative candidates.
Supporting this bill ties you directly to the cynical overreach and illegal actions of President Trump. It sends the message that staying in power matters more than protecting democracy. That’s not leadership—it’s voter suppression.
I urge you to stand for free and fair elections because it is the right thing to do.
