No Presidential Budget, No Excuses — Democrats Must Deliver
13 so far! Help us get to 25 signers!
I am writing as a concerned constituent about the federal budget process. Under the 1974 Budget Act, the president is supposed to submit a comprehensive budget every February. This year, only a partial outline has been released. Congress is still relying on short-term continuing resolutions while the risk of a shutdown grows. Agencies are warning employees to prepare for cuts if funding lapses.
I appreciate that Democratic leaders have put forward counter-measures:
The “No Kings” funding bill, which would keep the government open and prevent the executive branch from unilaterally withholding or freezing funds Congress has already appropriated.
The House Democratic budget resolution for FY2025, which protects Medicaid, ACA premium subsidies, and other essential programs from deep cuts.
These are vital steps, but they are only stopgaps. We need leadership that matches the scale of the crisis. I am asking you to:
Publicly support and fight for the “No Kings” provisions and the House Democratic budget resolution.
Demand a full, transparent budget proposal from the administration and push for a regular appropriations process instead of endless short-term fixes.
Make clear to your constituents how you are working to safeguard essential services and democratic checks and balances from efforts such as Project 2025 to consolidate power.
A functioning, transparent budget process is the backbone of democracy. Please stand up for it.
Thank you for your service and for your attention to this urgent issue. I would appreciate a response outlining your plan to ensure a full budget process and protect essential programs.
