An open letter to the U.S. Congress

Protect International Students from Arbitrary Visa Revocations

4 so far! Help us get to 5 signers!

I urge you to act swiftly to protect international students whose visas are being revoked by the U.S. State Department without due process. As reported in The New York Times on April 7, 2025, these actions are taking place without warning, clear justification, or recourse. This practice is harmful, discriminatory, and inconsistent with American principles. https://www.nytimes.com/2025/04/07/us/student-visas-revoked-trump-administration.html Sudden and Unexplained Visa Cancellations Many students have had valid visas canceled en route to the U.S. or upon arrival. Some were detained and deported with no prior notice or explanation. These cancellations are causing serious personal, academic, and financial hardship. Lack of Due Process Visa revocations appear to be based on vague or undisclosed security assessments. There is no transparency, no clear standards, and no accountability. Potential Discrimination and Political Retaliation There are credible concerns that Muslim students and those perceived as sympathetic to Palestinian causes are being disproportionately affected. If political beliefs or national origin are being used as a basis for revocation, this is inconsistent with deeply-embedded American values. Harm to American Education and Reputation International students contribute significantly to U.S. education and innovation. Sudden visa actions discourage talented individuals from coming to the U.S. and undermine trust in our institutions. Call to Action I respectfully request that you: • Demand transparency and due process from the State Department in visa revocations • Investigate the basis for recent visa cancellations • Support legislation that protects international students from arbitrary or discriminatory actions Above all, the United States must act with fairness and concern for its visiting international students. https://dl-rapidbot.s3.us-west-2.amazonaws.com/attachments/1/3f98/f30b/3f98f30b-67a6-46e3-ad13-4c98e660233d.php
