Remove Political Questionnaire from Federal Job Applications

I am writing to urge immediate congressional action to remove the recently added political questionnaire from federal job applications. This alarming development threatens the integrity of our civil service system and the quality of our federal workforce.
The inclusion of a political questionnaire in the federal hiring process is a dangerous step backwards, reminiscent of a time when government positions were filled based on political loyalty rather than professional qualifications. This practice undermines the very purpose of our merit-based civil service system, which was established to ensure a competent, non-partisan workforce.
Asking prospective employees, such as meteorologists or other specialized professionals, to define how they will make the government more efficient or to review numerous executive orders is both impractical and irrelevant to their actual job duties. These requirements could deter highly qualified candidates from pursuing public service, ultimately weakening our government's ability to serve the American people effectively.
Our current system already includes mechanisms for improving government efficiency, which existing employees can and do utilize. These established methods allow for targeted improvements based on real-world experience and expertise within each department. Imposing arbitrary efficiency requirements on new hires is likely to result in superficial or misguided suggestions rather than meaningful improvements.
Congress must act swiftly to protect the integrity of our civil service. I urge you to introduce or support legislation that explicitly prohibits the use of political questionnaires in federal job applications. Furthermore, I ask that you work to strengthen existing civil service protections and ensure that each department and agency is fully funded and staffed to fulfill their congressionally mandated functions.
The strength of our government lies in its professional, non-partisan workforce. By removing this political questionnaire and reinforcing the merit-based hiring process, we can ensure that our government agencies continue to operate effectively, guided by expertise rather than political considerations. Your action on this matter is crucial to maintaining the professionalism and effectiveness of our federal workforce.
