An open letter to the U.S. Congress

Protect the right to emergency treatment!

22 so far! Help us get to 25 signers!

I write today to ask you to take action to ensure that hospitals continue to provide all necessary medical treatment to patients, including abortion treatments. As you are no doubt aware, the Trump administration announced yesterday that it has rescinded guidance that hospitals are required to provide abortions to patients in emergency departments if it serves as a “stabilizing medical treatment” for an emergency medical condition, including “ectopic pregnancy, complications of pregnancy loss, or emergent hypertensive disorders, such as preeclampsia with severe features.” This decision will cost lives. I have friends who would not be alive today if they had not received stabilizing treatment for one of these conditions. I call on you to support legislation that would protect the right of all people to receive life-saving medical care in an emergency.
