Oppose “Make Entertainment Great Again Act" to rename Kennedy Center after Trump

Today I’m writing to urge you to oppose Representative Onder’s proposed "Make Entertainment Great Again Act" to rename the Kennedy Center after President Trump. It’s a blatant attempt by Republicans to curry favor with Trump. It’s baffling why they would even bother. Meanwhile it’s a waste of precious legislative time, as well as deeply misguided and disrespectful. The Kennedy Center was established as a living memorial to President John F. Kennedy, who was tragically assassinated in 1963. Renaming this iconic institution would erase an important part of our nation's history and dishonor Kennedy's legacy. Furthermore, the justification that Trump has "entertained audiences for decades" through reality TV and cameo film appearances is frivolous, and given that it’s no mystery it was all fake, including the board room set, shows was a deeply sick person our President is. The Kennedy Center is a revered space for showcasing the highest forms of artistic expression and cultural enrichment, not a venue for celebrity entertainers. Trump's denigration of the Center's "woke" programming, including drag performances, displays an alarming disregard for artistic freedom and diversity. Real people simply go to entertainments they like, not change the whole organization to suit their vulgar Trumpian tastes. He has his circus act he takes around the country to ‘the biggest crowds’ (of idiots), what more does he need? Rather than engaging in partisan attempts to rebrand hallowed institutions for political gain, we should focus on preserving and celebrating America's rich cultural heritage. The Kennedy Center stands as a powerful symbol of our nation's commitment to the arts and their vital role in society. Changing its name would be an insult to the cultural community and all those who appreciate the Center's profound historical and artistic significance. I urge you to reject this ill-conceived legislation and uphold the Kennedy Center's honored. In fact, I urge you to tear up copies of the bill and leave them on Representative Onder’s House Desk.
