An open letter to State Governors & Legislatures (Utah only)
The Senate President should step down immediately

The Utah Senate President's actions in helping pass legislation that directly impacted the criminal case involving his relative are a blatant abuse of power and cross every ethical line. This is not just a legal matter, but a question of basic fairness and public trust. When elected leaders can rewrite laws to benefit their own families, it undermines faith in the justice system and sets a dangerous precedent that laws can be manipulated for personal gain. No politician should be able to use their position to protect relatives accused of heinous crimes like rape. The victim's experience was clearly deprioritized, robbing them of the justice they deserved. Every parent in Utah now has reason to doubt whether their child would receive equal treatment under the law. This egregious breach of ethics has shattered public confidence. To restore even a shred of credibility, the Utah Senate President must resign immediately. Lawmakers cannot claim to uphold the law while exploiting their power to circumvent it for their own benefit. Stepping down is the only way to begin rebuilding trust and holding themselves to the standards expected of elected officials. Abuses of power this severe cannot be tolerated if the system is to maintain any legitimacy.
