Increase Funding for Housing and Homelessness Programs

As your constituent, I'm writing to urge you to work with your colleagues to negotiate and pass an FY2026 spending bill that is in the best interest of the people and ensure tenants and communities have what they need to thrive. People with disabilities, older adults, low-wage workers, and landlords rely on federally funded programs. Federal housing investments prevent housing instability and homelessness, support thriving communities, and encourage economic prosperity and growth. Congress should not balance our nation’s budget at the expense of the lowest-income and most marginalized people and families who are already struggling to get by. I urge you and your colleagues to pass a final FY26 spending bill that funds affordable housing and homelessness programs at the highest level possible in FY26, including: 1) Full funding to renew all existing tenant-based voucher contracts. 2) $4.922 billion for HUD’s Homeless Assistance Grants (HAG) program. 3) $5.7 billion for public housing operations, and at least $5 billion to address public housing capital needs. 4) $15 million for the Eviction Protection Grant Program (EPGP), as provided in the Senate's spending bill.  5) At least $1.3 billion for HUD’s Indian Housing Block Grant (IHBG) program and $150 million for IHBG-Competitive funds, targeted to tribes with the greatest needs.
