I write as a concerned constituent to condemn the Trump administration’s alarming purge of military leadership, a move that threatens our democracy and national security. Immediate congressional action is needed to investigate and oppose this dangerous trend.
President Trump has fired General Charles Q. Brown Jr., Chairman of the Joint Chiefs, Admiral Lisa Franchetti, Chief of Naval Operations, Admiral Linda Lee Fagan, Coast Guard Commandant, and General James Slife, Air Force Vice Chief, often with little notice or respect. Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth dismissed Brown and Franchetti as “DEI hires,” while plans to fire judge advocates general—key to ensuring legal orders—suggest an intent to remove oversight.
Trump’s nominee for Chairman, retired Lt. Gen. Dan Caine, lacks the required experience for this vital role, needing a legal waiver. His selection seems based on loyalty—Trump claims Caine said, “I’ll kill for you, sir”—not qualifications. Coupled with purges of military academy boards to root out “Woke Ideologues,” this signals a politicization of our armed forces, echoing authoritarian tactics like Stalin’s purges or Trump’s own praise for “Hitler’s generals.”
National Security Leaders for America and experts warn this could pave the way for authoritarian control, undermining the military’s oath to the Constitution. I urge you to oppose Caine’s nomination unless he meets standard criteria, support oversight legislation, and investigate these actions for partisan intent. Our military must serve the nation, not one man.
